Variability of morphological descriptors in Sicilian oat (Avena sativa L.) populations

چکیده

Due to its rusticity and feasibility of use, oat (Avena sativa L.) represents a crucial agronomic economic resource for many semi-arid environments. Presently, the recourse new commercial varieties has caused dramatic lowering areas covered with traditional local genotypes, severe risk genetic erosion is emerging. To deepen knowledge about autochthonous populations, an activity collection cataloguing across cropping was carried out. Sixteen populations were collected from different Sicily put in field study two consecutive years (2014 2015) experimental farm “Sparacia” (Cammarata – AG). In both all twenty-one morphological characters, related aspects whole plant or parts, measured as described guidelines CPVO-OCVV (rif. CPVO-TP/020/2). Multivariate analysis applied assess similarity/dissimilarity level among also evaluating relative discriminatory importance each selected character. Although strong variability between did not allow perfect discrimination association groups emerged based on their prevalent utilization form. Among categorical measurements glumes grain provided best characterization years. This article protected by copyright. All rights reserved

Mechanisms of oat (Avena sativa L.) acclimation to phosphate deficiency

Background Deficiency of available forms of phosphorus is common in most soils and causes reduction of crop plants growth and yield. Recently, model plants responses to phosphate (Pi) deficiency have been intensively studied. However, acclimation mechanisms of cereals like oat (Avena sativa L.), to low Pi stress remains not fully understood. Oat plants have been usually cultured on poor soils, ...

Generation of SNP markers for short straw in oat (Avena sativa L.).

Short straw is a desired trait in oat germplasm (Avena sativa L.). Marker-assisted selection, a key tool for achieving this objective, is limited by the presence and number of available markers. Here, we have attempted to develop markers sufficiently linked to a gene specifying short straw so that marker-assisted selection could be applied. Bulked-segregant analysis was used to identify anonymo...

Genome-Wide Association Mapping of Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus Tolerance in Spring Oat (Avena sativa L.)

Barley yellow dwarf viruses (BYDVs) are responsible for the disease barley yellow dwarf (BYD) and affect many cereals including oat (Avena sativa L.). Until recently, the molecular marker technology in oat has not allowed for many marker-trait association studies to determine the genetic mechanisms for tolerance. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed on 428 spring oat lines using...

Hydration and Pasting Properties of Oat (Avena sativa) Flour

Three oat cultivars and one oat breeding line were evaluated for chemical, hydration and pasting properties. Protein, starch and β-glucan levels ranged 11.13∼14.37, 56.37∼64.86 and 3.44∼4.76%, respectively. The oat cultivars Daeyang and Seonyang contained higher β-glucan levels of 4.76 and 4.35%. The Daeyang variety had a higher water absorption index (WAI) of 2.83∼3.35 (g/g), but a lower water...
